How to get paid for your Instagram DMs

The ways creators charge for DMs, and how to set up paid DMs so your audience pays without leaving the Instagram chat.

If you have an audience on Instagram, your DMs are already a job. People ask for feedback, advice, recommendations, and “just a quick question” every day. Answering them well takes time and expertise, and most of it goes unpaid.

This guide covers the options creators use to get paid for that work, and how to set up paid DMs so your audience can pay without leaving the conversation.

Why your DMs are worth paying for

A good reply to a DM is often a small piece of consulting: a coach checking a training plan, a designer reviewing a portfolio, a mentor weighing in on a job offer. The people who ask know it has value. What they usually lack is a simple, respectful way to pay for it.

Charging for DMs also helps you. Paid questions tend to be clearer and more considered, and you can give each one real attention instead of skimming a crowded inbox.

The usual ways creators charge for DMs

  • “DM me for rates” then invoicing by hand. It works, but every conversation turns into admin.
  • A paywall link in your bio. Your audience has to leave the chat, create an account somewhere new, and start the conversation again.
  • Subscriptions. Good for ongoing content, but heavy for someone who only wants one answer.
  • Paid DMs inside the conversation. The person pays for the messages they want, then keeps chatting where they already are.

How paid DMs work with DialMe

  1. Connect your inbox. Link an Instagram creator or business account (or X) in DialMe. You approve access on Instagram’s own screen through Meta’s official API, and DialMe never sees your password.
  2. Choose which DMs qualify. Pick trigger words such as “review” or “advice”, or apply paid messages to every new DM.
  3. Set your price. Choose a price per message and offer message packs.
  4. They pay from the chat. When a qualifying DM arrives, DialMe replies in that conversation with a buy button. They pay in a secure browser checkout, with no app to download, and keep chatting in Instagram.
  5. You answer from DialMe. Paid messages land in your DialMe inbox on the web or in the app. Your replies go back to the original Instagram chat.

Trigger words or every DM?

If your inbox mixes friends, brand deals, and questions, start with trigger words. Put them in your bio or story (“DM me REVIEW for portfolio feedback”) so people know how to reach you for paid help, and everything else stays as it is.

If most of your DMs are requests for your time, applying paid messages to every new DM keeps things simple. You can switch between the two whenever you like.

How to choose your price

Start from the time a good answer takes you, and what that time is worth. A quick recommendation and a detailed portfolio review are different products, so message packs help: someone who needs a back-and-forth can buy a few messages at once.

You can change your price at any time, so it is fine to start modestly and adjust once you see which questions come in.

What you need to get started

  • An Instagram creator or business account, or an X account.
  • A few minutes to connect your inbox and set your price.
  • A line in your bio or a story telling people how to ask. See our page for coaches or for creatives for examples.
